Shooting Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Saturday, May 20, 2017 at approximately 4:45 pm, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the area of 129 Longview Drive in the Longview Apartment Complex in reference to a report of a shooting.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the parking lot of the apartment complex when he was approached by an unknown suspect who was armed with a rifle.  The suspect began firing multiple rounds and the victim was struck at least once.  The victim ran into the wooded area behind the apartment complex and sought refuge until emergency personnel arrived to the scene.

The male victim has been transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.  The name of the victim is currently being withheld until his immediate family can be notified.

Detectives with the FPD’s Aggravated Assault Unit are actively investigating the shooting and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
