Update to Homicide Investigation-Suspect Arrested

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – The victim of the homicide that occurred along the 700 block of Tamarack Drive has been identified as Derek Samuel SPELL (Black male, 34 years of age). The victim’s next of kin has been notified.

 

The investigation revealed Derek SPELL was involved in a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend, Amanda Deloris KELLY (Black female, 30 years of age). During the domestic disturbance a handgun was obtained, a struggle ensued and SPELL sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. SPELL was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Amanda Deloris KELLY was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail under a $20,000.00 secured bond.

 

 

Homicide Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On December 13, 2022, at approximately 10:18 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Tamarack Drive for reports of a shooting.

 

Upon arriving on scene, officers located one adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for his injuries where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld until the family has been notified.

 

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have assumed the investigation. A person of interest is being questioned by members of the Homicide Unit at this time. The preliminary investigation has revealed this was an isolated incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
